A force of nature, age won’t stop Cherry Sunday from making herself known or from getting a cup of tea; whatever it takes! As warm and wry as the rest of her family, she’ll welcome anyone – human or alien – but she might kick up a little bit of a fuss first.
Cherry Sunday is on an eternal quest for a cup of tea - and is a loving mother to her daughter, Carla, and adoptive grandchild Ruby Sunday. Because they couldn’t afford personal care for Cherry (and she refused to leave London), Carla and Ruby moved from Manchester to her home to look after her. On Christmas Eve 2024, Cherry displays her more cantankerous nature when Carla announces she is fostering Lulubelle, and then again when the Doctor enters her room.
Cherry is atomised alongside Mrs Flood during Sutekh’s attack on the universe; but thankfully is brought back after the Doctor and Ruby defeat the god. When restored, Cherry welcomes Ruby’s birth mother, Louise, to the family, sharing the thousands of pictures they’ve taken of her while growing up.
And, most importantly, she finally had a cup of tea.
Cherry Sunday is played by Angela Wynter. With a career in television, film and stage spanning many decades, she is perhaps best known for her role as Yolande Trueman in UK soap EastEnders.
