Character Bio

Ruby’s protective and loving mother, Carla Sunday, finds herself in a world beset by goblins, alternate universes and the Doctor

After fostering Ruby when she was found on a church doorstep, Carla is inspired to take on another thirty children, although Ruby is the only one to stay with her to adulthood. The two also care for Carla’s aging mother, Cherry

When Carla’s latest foster child, Lulubelle, is kidnapped by the Goblins, Ruby is briefly erased from time - along with Carla’s kind-hearted nature and fostering achievements. Luckily, the Doctor is able to save both Ruby and Lulubelle, erasing Carla’s darker timeline and leading Ruby to pursue the adventure of a lifetime - travelling in the TARDIS

In the alternate universe created in 73 Yards, Carla rejects her daughter after her interaction with ‘The Woman’. Thankfully, decades later, Ruby reverses this.

Although worried for her daughter, and making the Doctor promise to protect her, Carla is completely supportive of her travels - but is willing to go the extra mile to ensure she survives them, even making her way to the top level of UNIT.

Like everyone else on Earth, Carla was killed by Sutekh’s Dust of Death but restored through the Doctor and Ruby’s actions. She later met Ruby’s birth mother, Louise, and shared photos with her from Ruby’s upbringing.
