"This is going to be the least I’ve ever let anybody down."

Joy to the World |
Diligent yet somewhat nervous, Trev takes every aspect of his job very seriously and tries not to let anyone down. A chance encounter with a suspicious hotel “guest” over the breakfast bar becomes an opportunity for Trev to prove himself to the Doctor. In fact, he is so determined to help, that not even his own tragic and untimely death can keep Trev from his mission!
When a curious figure appears in the lobby of the Time Hotel and helps himself to some milk, security team member Trev is quick to intercept. The stranger, of course, is the Doctor, who gives Trev a mission regarding a briefcase of a suspicious-looking guest. Trev is eager to get involved and follows the man to the hotel bar, where Trev is handed the briefcase by one of his colleagues (who is now in possession of it). It takes control of him just as the previous two case-holders disintegrate! After the case directs him to upgrade its access by handing it over to the Silurian hotel manager, Trev meets his own unfortunate end and laments letting the Doctor down.
Unfortunately, the case – containing an incubating star seed – belongs to the Villengard Corporation, a weapons manufacturer with a habit of co-opting people’s living consciousnesses and converting them into AI interfaces. Free of the burden of mortality – but not his mission – AI Trev is able to keep tabs on the operations of the briefcase over millions of years, alerting the Doctor when the star seed is ready to bloom.
When the Doctor and Joy disrupt Villengard’s hold over the star seed, Trev’s consciousness joins that of Joy, the hotel manager and every other victim of the Villengard briefcase as they ascend to the stars on Christmas Day.
Trev is played by actor Joel Fry (Our Flag Means Death, Game of Thrones, Plebs). While the role of Trev is his debut in the TV series, Fry has also previously voiced various other characters in Big Finish’s range of Doctor Who audio dramas.
