“Go and save the world, Doctor – We love you so much.” 

Passionate, excitable and just a little bit obsessive, Hassan, Lizzie and Robyn live and breathe for Doctor Who – quite literally! Existing within the domain of Lux, the God of Light, the fans are created as a convincing trap to keep the Doctor and Belinda from escaping. But what Mr Ring-a-Ding didn’t count on was the fans' love for the Doctor’s adventures (and each other), inspiring them to help save the day – even if it means sacrificing their own existence in the process. 

Character Bio

As the Doctor and Belinda attempt to escape from the film reels of Mr Ring-a-Ding's domain, they stumble through the screen of a television – right into the living room of three of the Doctor’s “biggest fans”! Dressed in their best Doctor Who gear and surrounded by books and Blu-rays from the series, the appearance of the actual, real-life Doctor in their world comes as a huge shock to Hassan and Lizzie – but not Robyn who, of course, read about all the leaks online.

Over a cup of tea, the fans explain to the Doctor and Belinda that they obsessively watch their adventures on TV as fiction. They each tout Blink as their favourite episode despite the Doctor’s efforts to convince them otherwise. When the subject of how to defeat Mr Ring-a-Ding comes up, Robyn points out that earlier, the explosive film stock in the cinema had been set up as an “obvious” plot device.

The fans sadly acknowledge their role as another trap for the Doctor within the domain of Mr Ring-a-Ding, accepting that the Doctor and Belinda’s escape will cause their existence to end. Regardless, they thank the Doctor for inspiring them to do good, and for his role in them finding each other. They encourage him and Belinda to beat the God of Light and save the world. Lizzie pulls down the film reel of their reality and sends the TARDIS travellers on their way back to the ‘real world’.

After the Doctor and Belinda defeat Mr Ring-a-Ding, and depart from 1952, the credits of the episode roll – and we pan out to see Hassan, Lizzie and Robyn finishing the episode as well. To their own surprise and delight, the fans have survived! Time for a celebratory rewatch of Blink...?
