Noor Inayat Khan was a Special Operations Executive agent who worked as a British spy during World War II. Her codename was ‘Madeleine’ and she was the first female wireless operator to be sent from the UK to France to assist the resistance.
Khan was stationed in Paris in 1943, which is where she met the Doctor and Ada Lovelace. She helped the two time-travellers to evade Nazi officers by hiding them under her floorboards – and then again by sending a message to London, successfully framing the Master as a British spy.
After travelling to 2020 to defeat the Kasaavin, the Doctor sadly erased Khan’s memories before leaving her back in 1943. She was posthumously awarded the George Cross for her brave and heroic service – the highest decoration a civilian can be given in the UK.
