Frightened but determined, Aliss is a key part of the mining operation on Colony Base 15 - even if she only sees herself as a lowly cook. Eventually the target of a deadly yet unknown entity via the process of elimination, she is desperate for the rescue operation’s help; but is initially only treated with respect by the Doctor and Belinda.

The real reason for her survival becomes clear: as the only deaf inhabitant of the colony, Aliss is immune to the whispers of the entity that drove her fellow colonists to madness. But the Doctor can hear the voices surrounding her much more clearly... 

Character Bio

Discovered as the last survivor of the mining colony on 6-7-6-7, Aliss wants nothing more than to get home, back to her daughter, Pelony. She is the base’s cook, and has been surviving on flat pack protein and waiting for rescue. 

Answering the Doctor and Shaya’s team of investigating troopers’ questions about how she came to be there, Aliss replies that everyone went mad except her, which caused her to kill her best friend. Viewed as a potential threat, she repeatedly emphasises that she has no idea what’s going on, forming a friendly relationship with Belinda Chandra who treats her wounds. However, Belinda soon begins to see something behind her.  

Eventually, under their questioning, she reveals that she has known all along that there is something behind her but that it cannot be seen or stopped. Emerging from the deep well of the mine, the entity originally went for her commander, working its way down the chain until it reached Aliss. She claims that anyone who steps behind her will die, and begs the Doctor to help her get free of the thing latched onto her.  

Rattled, one of the troopers, Cassio, takes over command, aiming to kill the creature by killing Aliss – only to cause the deaths of himself and many of his crew in the process. The Doctor manages to free Aliss by reflecting the creature back on itself, allowing her to escape and join the rest of the crew in the evacuation process.

Although she and the others may not have escaped as easily as they think...
